The ecuadorian Machu Picchu: it's got its temple, it's complex system of terraces and agricultural platforms. It was holy ground for the Cañari; when the Incas came, they built upon it. This is one of the best-preserved remains of Inca architecture and a must-visit for history and culture enthusiasts.
❧ The Temple of the Sun is an impressive semi-circular structure with precise astronomical alignments: it's been said that its the most powerful energetic point in all of Ecuadorian Andes. Just take a look at the breathtaking mountain scenery at every angle and you'll understand why.
❧ Just as in Cuzco, the architectural style of Ingapirca defies belief: bare rocks, packed so close together a knitting needle cannot fit between them, that reshape the mountain that hosts them. Wait for the sun to come out and marvel at the whole complex shining alight.
❧ We're staying at Posada Ingapirca, our mountain lodge just 200 meters away. It's a charming place; a 200-year-old haciendo with lovely sights all around. Play with the llamas, eat exquisite reintrepretations of the Inca diet, get all comfy next to the fireplace. We've planted hundreds of endemic trees over the place, and through time they've transformed the Posada into a unique spot in our country.
